Thermal Engineering CompanyEach of our client's specific needs is different. Whether you just want to kick start a design process with some creative 'brainstorming' or are looking for input regarding a specific design approach, we make acquiring thermal engineering expertise easy.

The following products fulfill many clients' needs or may be a starting point to a more comprehensive development program:

1.  Requirements Definition - organizing the problem

Your development needs to start, but sometimes simply getting the right information on paper is a challenge and getting your organization to agree on requirements can be an even more daunting task. We can work hand-in-hand with your development team to quickly identify critical system factors that may influence the thermal performance of your system. Your project schedule will be dramatically shortened if consensus and direction is established upfront.

Our offer:

  • Engineers with experience in developing thermal systems would assist clarifying your needs
  • Face-to-face meeting with your stakeholders and staff at your facility
  • Thoroughly explore the application and industry nuances; physically examine equipment to identify critical system issues
  • Explore your current thinking and document both technical and business requirements. Ensure that all stakeholders have 'voice' in the process
  • Develop a comprehensive project 'goals and objectives' document with the technical and business depth to enable project scoping by either an internal or external development team. To include:
    • Translation of your objectives into thermal systems language
    • Prioritization of project goals (cost, schedule, performance, weight, size, etc.)
    • Documentation of regulatory agency requirements
Price:  $5,100

Terms:  Travel surcharge if outside continental United States.

2.  New Concept Development - determining the best way

You're searching for new ways of doing things, an 'out-of-the-box' approach that will help you meet your goals. These goals may range from heat/cool cycle time, temperature uniformity, lower cost, improved reliability or time to market. We will help you take your task from the improbable to the pragmatic, in a short period of time. Our expert team will generate, document and evaluate a host of possible solutions for your application needs. With your team's guidance on risk, schedule, performance and cost, we will select a worthy design and technology path that will meet your demanding needs.

Our offer:

  • Experienced and creative engineers to identify and qualify a range of approaches to satisfying your thermal system need.
  • Creative meetings involving your team and a cross-section of thermal experts representing various Watlow technology centers
  • Concepts are presented, then subsequently built upon and enhanced using the experience and expertise of our engineering team
  • Concepts fully documented and illustrated in 3D solid models
  • Preliminary computer aided engineering simulation (FEA/CFD) for the top concept
  • Conceptual design brief documentation for the ideas generated
    • Semi-quantitative appraisals of how each concept met the top priorities of the project
    • 2D or 3D (FEA/CFD) 'preliminary' finite element simulation model of the 'best' concept
    • A recommendation 'pointer' regarding the next steps in the development path
Price:  $13,500

Terms:  Prerequisite: system specification document provided by client, or completion of #1 (Requirements definition). FEA/CFD simulation complexity is at the discretion of Single Iteration. Material properties for FEA/CFD are readily available in literature.

3.  Performance Predictor - measuring the level of difficulty

You have done the detailed design work for a thermal subsystem in your application. However, before you commit time and money to a prototype build, you would like to be sure that the thermal performance will be as you predict. You may still have questions. Is there a complex thermal effect that should be considered? Is there a better solution? Will this meet my exact objectives?

Single Iteration will quantitatively predict the performance that can be expected from your design. We will provide you with insight into how to use the modeling results to guide your future design decisions. Once you have this thermal model in our archives, assessing the impact of design changes is easy.

Our offer:

  • Thermal engineering experts to review your design including quantitative assessment of expected thermal performance.
  • Review of your application, project goals and submitted designs
  • Review of all your relevant CAD files and documentation
  • Define a computer modeling approach that will provide the required level of predictive information to assist in your design decisions
  • Simulation of thermal system performance using appropriate modeling application software (FEA/CFD) to characterize the expected performance and aide subsequent design decisions
  • Written performance assessment brief documenting the following:
    • Preliminary identification of mechanical, electrical and thermal risk areas
    • 2D/3D presentation with finite element model simulation
    • Review of chosen heater technology relative to other available technologies
    • Discussion of control and sensing schemes (if applicable)
    • Recommendation for performance improvement opportunities
Price:  $10,500

Terms:  Detailed 3D engineering models provided by client. FEA/CFD simulation complexity is at the discretion of Single Iteration. Material properties for FEA/CFD are readily available in literature.
